Update on actions during this critical time
We are fully open again and all classes are back for on campus learning. If needed we can move to a hybrid model by leveraging our Collaborative Social Learning Environment (LAB) and zoom for Distance Learning in full compliance with IL State and NACCAS regulations.
As of Sunday, May 24, Governor Pritzker announced that cosmetology schools in Illinois can re-open already in Phase 3 of his re-opening plan as they are more like a salon, barbershop and spa business than a traditional K-12 school or university.
Since we are committed to providing the best education possible for our students and staff in a safe and healthy environment, we have decided to re-open the school only to our students and staff in a first phase. This will allow our students to continue with their classes to become salon/spa beauty and barber professionals. Our students will resume classes using a combination of distance and on-campus learning (Hybrid model), following both the existing and new enhanced hygiene and sanitation guidelines. We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure we all are safe once we are back in the academy. The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
Here is our first draft timeline and plan. From June 1st, 2020 our staff will be fully back and complete the creation of all needed procedures to ensure we are meeting all requirements and recommendation to operate in a safe and secure way. We continue with our distance learning during this period. We will ensure that social distances are guaranteed, and all requirements met or overachieved. You will receive a full package of all procedures by June 9th. After we trained our staff on the new and updated procedures, we will then start slowly to bring back students on campus. The week of June 15th, 2020 we plan to have our full hybrid approach optimized and in full operations still limited by social distancing and other requirements.
We will open our salon, barbershop and spa in a phased approach later, which will allow a limited number of guests and services performed per day. While we do not have the exact date when guest services will be available at our student salon, barbershop and spa, we plan to start with an organized and staged approach by mid/end-June 2020. Once a date is determined we will share with you and our guests as well as the new guidelines that will be implemented at the academy in regard to guest services.
Some additional news:
Our June cosmetology class will start on June 9th. Please welcome our new students. We will add more practical’s to our distance learning offering in the area of Long Hair and Cut and Color. Students who participate in this will receive needed additional items for free. We will continue to provide social media training for current students, so everybody currently enrolled will complete this Beauty as a Business block.
We are often asked why cosmetology schools are advised differently than K-12 schools or universities. Here are some reasons why:
- Daily operations are modeled after salons, barbershops and spas
- Hygiene and sanitation are a top priority and our core business as well
- Class sizes are much smaller
- The administrative staff is a small group
- The academy is located in a suburban area, has more than 8,000 sft and many parking lot
Thank you for your continued, loyal support of our staff and Academy, and we appreciate your support during this transition. We hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy. We will keep you posted on a bi-daily base starting from next Tuesday.
