- Flexible schedule: Many salons and spas offer flexible hours. Cosmetologists usually can pick their own hours, down to the day and time they want to work.
- Creativity: Cosmetologists can use their creativity to transform their clients’ appearance. From hair to nails, you have the ability to let your creative juices flow!
- Job fulfillment: Many cosmetologists find that their job is fulfilling. Being able to help their clients feel beautiful and confident leads to a high rewarding career!
- Earning potential: The salary of a cosmetologist can vary widely, but many earn a good living while working less than 40 hours a week – especially with tips and commissions.
Renew Your License
Your cosmetology license will expire September 30th of every odd numbered year. You will be able to renew 2-3 months prior to the expiration date shown on your license. Cosmetologists cannot practice hair, skin, or nails with an expired license so make sure to stay on top of it!
Continued Education
To keep your license current and stay up-to-date with the latest beauty trends and techniques, it’s important to participate in continuing education programs. The state of Illinois requires continued education in order to renew your license. 14 hours is required between October 1 and September 30 of the renewal period.
